We were at the Getty Center one day and happened upon an exhibit of the photography of Lee Miller. I was absolutely amazed by this woman. She was the muse and object of so many other artists’ work, but when she got behind the lens herself, the world she showed us was dark and complicated. She photographed the fall of the Nazi regime in a way both poignant and terrifying, and her photo “Bürgermeister of Leipzig's daughter, suicided, Leipzig, Germany, 1945” gripped me. The song imagines Lee’s thoughts when happening upon that girl in Leipzig.
